Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are glad to see Mohamed Salah on international duty fulfilling his World Cup dream with Egypt.
Salah was forced off in the first-half of the Champions League final against Real Madrid just two weeks ago. The winger was involved in an altercation with Sergio Ramos that plunged his World Cup future into doubt. Luckily for Egpyt, their star player was deemed fit enough to travel to the tournament.
Our regulars will also be casting an eye on Brazil with Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker believed to be Jurgen Klopp’s first-choice goalkeeper to replace Loris Karius at Anfield. A fee of around £60m would be required to lure him from Italy, but reports suggest Real Madrid lead the race for his signature. Losing Alisson would be a real blow to Klopp’s plan.
A new goalkeeper would still be needed on Merseyside so Liverpool should move for the man who Alisson would replace, Real Madrid stopper – Keylor Navas. Valued at £16.2m by Transfermarkt, he made 44 appearances for Los Blancos last season. The Costa Rica international made some critical saves during Madrid’s route to the Champions League final.
Instead of spending £40m to sign Jack Butland, Navas would be available for a much better price if Madrid manage to land Alisson. There is a reason he is Real Madrid’s number one; he would be a significant upgrade on Liverpool’s current ‘keepers.
At 32-years-old, he wouldn’t be a long-term option but would be a great signing until a younger goalkeeper comes on the market. The former Levante man has been heavily criticised but would surprise many if he made a move to the Premier League.
