‘Closest thing we’ve had to Gerrard’ – Liverpool fans on Twitter react to Melwood clip

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to a video from their club’s official Twitter account of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane taking part in the latest #GoalsRecreated series. Chamberlain had to recreate the goal scored by Steven Gerrard in the Champions League in 2009 and Liverpool fans are loving it.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain looks like a new player and a new person since he swapped London for Liverpool in the summer. The winger, turned central-midfielder left the Emirates to pursue a career in the middle of the park after being deployed predominantly at wing-back under Wenger. The move, although a risky one, has turned out to be a good one for Chamberlain as he’s flourished under the Gengenpress style on show under Klopp at Anfield.

Chamberlain has been one of a number of players whose achievements have been well documented this season. After initially receiving criticism for his move and taking a few weeks to adapt to his new life on Merseyside, the England man now looks to be a shoe-in to be on the plane to Russia in the summer as part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad, and if he can recreate more Steven Gerrard goals in matches between now and the end of the season it’ll just further improve his stock with England fans before the World Cup in June.
