Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have let out groans of disbelief this morning, after the latest reports suggested they’ll have to fend-off interest in their star-man yet again.
Brazilian ace Philippe Coutinho continues to attract the attention of Barcelona and the Reds will be incredibly concerned by reports from Spanish outlet Sport, who state the La Liga giants see Coutinho as a ‘necessity’ signing this summer.
Barcelona are braced for wholesale changes with Luis Enrique set to leave the Nou Camp and significant additions are eyed across the board, with the Catalan outfit looking to improve on what’s been a disappointing campaign.
Sport states meetings with Coutinho’s entourage have already taken place and the Spanish side will have to offer a huge deal to capture the South American, as they’d have to make Coutinho one of their highest earners and would also need to pay a huge sum to convince Liverpool into a sale.
Whilst the Reds have a good bargaining position, with Coutinho having recently penned a new contract that runs until 2022, player power could come into effect and Jurgen Klopp’s side would have a tough time if Coutinho decided he wants to move to Catalonia.
Our landlord believes Coutinho will stay this summer though and is instead more likely to leave after next summer’s World Cup, which he feels would work better for all parties.
