Confirmed: Liverpool ward off Barcelona as they wrap up playmaker agreement

It’s been a wonderful start to the morning for the Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern ahead of their EFL Cup semi-final with Southampton tonight. 

One nil down after the first leg, the Reds in the bar desperately need their nerves calmed after some patchy form in the Premier League and confirmation on their official website in regards to Philippe Coutinho has done exactly that.

They’ve announced star playmaker Coutinho has penned a new long-term deal at Anfield after emerging as one of the elite playmakers in Europe. The Brazilian has recently returned from an injury to aid Jurgen Klopp’s title tilt on Merseyside, much to the delight of all involved at the club.

The news has gone down a storm amongst our punters, with the 24-year-old had been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona in recent months as a result of his stunning form under the German coach. Signed back in January 2013 from Inter Milan, the Selecao samba star is clearly one of the best attackers in the European game and surely crucial to their hopes of challenging both domestically and on the continent once again.

“I am very happy to sign a new contract here”, he said.

”It is a club that I am very grateful to and this shows my happiness here. I will work much harder to repay the belief shown in me.”
