The Crystal Palace fans who are gathered at the bar this evening are discussing reports that the club could be about to smash their transfer record.
The Guardian is reporting that the Premier League side are set to bid £31.5 million for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke.
Palace saw an opening bid of £25 million for the Belgian striker rejected last week and they were told by the Merseyside club that it would take a bid of £30 million plus to land the striker this summer.
Benteke has failed to impress Jurgen Klopp since the German took over from Brendan Rodgers and he has deemed the striker surplus to requirements this summer, but those behind the scenes at Anfield are trying to recoup as much of the £32.5 million they paid Aston Villa just last summer.
The offer will reportedly comprise of £27 million up front, with a raft of clauses including qualifying for Europe taking the amount up to £31.5 million.
With just 10 goals in 42 appearances for the Reds last season the Belgian is keen to reignite his career with a move away and a move to London could be just what the player needs to do just that.
Would Benteke excel at Palace?
