Liverpool look suspect at left-back in the approach to the new season with Paul Konchesky sold to Leicester and Fabio Aurelio continuing to struggle with niggles and knocks. That leaves the mantle with centre-back Daniel Agger as a covering defender or young prospect Jack Robinson.
Liverpool have reportedly enquired into the possibility of signing Gérson Magrão as a new left-back to provide competition at Anfield. He is an attacking and adventurous wide player who loves to get into the opposing box or to the byline. He has spent much of his career in his native Brazil, scoring a few excellent goals in the process, and is currently with Ukrainian outfit Dynamo Kiev.
However, the potential move for for Magrao is certainly questionable. The lack of international recognition for the former Feyenoord man would prove a huge obstacle in obtaining a work permit. In addition to this, he has represented 6 different clubs in his relatively short career to date, suggesting he can never quite settle.
Liverpool need someone to come in and take the left-back spot immediately and make it their own. They need an acclimatised player who the fans are desperate to see – perhaps someone named Jose Enrique ?
