The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to the news that whilst Joel Matip is now supposedly out for the rest of the season, Dejan Lovren is set to start alongside Virgil Van Dijk at the heart of the Liverpool defence for the huge Champions League clash against Manchester City. Lovren has come under criticism this season for failing to live up the required standards at Anfield.

Dejan Lovren will be gearing up for one of the biggest games in his Liverpool career tonight at Anfield. It won’t be Lovren’s first famous night at Anfield in Europe though, as he famously scored the winning goal in the 91st minute for the Reds as they overcame Borussia Dortmund in the Europa League in the quarter-finals back in 2016. Whilst Liverpool fans will hope this time around against City it’s not such a close affair, they’ll no doubt take any way through to the last four, even if it takes a Lovren last-gasp winner.
Jurgen Klopp’s defence has looked a lot more solid since the signing of Van Dijk in January and the club even managed to overcome Pep Guardiola’s side without Van Dijk back in mid-January. Guardiola’s side will be much more up for the clash with Liverpool tonight than they would’ve been back earlier in the year considering what’s at stake for both sides this time around. Progression to the Champions League four is a huge achievement and both sides will have an eye on the top prize if they’re to make the semi-finals. Lovren and co will need to be at the top of their game, but no one’s discounting Liverpool yet.

I believe we have a better squad now than the one that won in 05. Jerzy was criticized back then but now he's a club legend. This competition can make or break you. Let's hope
Dejan is up for it. COME ON YOU REDS!

To be or not to be? This 180 minutes or more could define his LFC career.
