Liverpool: Fans hammer Ian Wright’s comments on Dejan Lovren - Liverpool

Steven Gerrard is an absolute Liverpool legend but, whilst many opposing fans will admit that he is one of the best midfielders ever to play in the Premier League, he will always be remembered for one moment against Chelsea in 2014.

With Liverpool within touching distance of a first title since 1990, a victory against the Blues would have put them in pole position to finish the campaign on top of the table. However, in what seemed like a rather harmless position, Gerrard lost his footing, leaving Demba Ba to run through on goal to make the score 1-0 to the Stamford Bridge outfit – the final score would end up 2-0, and the Reds lost their grip on the trophy which Manchester City eventually won.

question mark

Who was Kenny Dalglish's first signing as Liverpool manager?

The irony is, Gerrard was the driving force behind that side, yet it was he who made that costly error. Ian Wright, for one, would rather it not be him who made the mistake – he would have preferred it to be Dejan Lovren. He told the Monday Night Football Club: “If I could choose someone else, I would probably have chosen Lovren, I know he wasn’t playing but if I could throw someone into the scenario I’d probably throw in Lovren, because he’s got history.”

Do you agree with Ian Wright?

The fact that Lovren wasn’t even at Liverpool at the time is one of the many bizarre facets of that statement, and it is fair to say the Reds supporters have absolutely hammered the former Arsenal striker – one fan even called him an “embarrassment of a man.”
