Don’t do it Klopp! Why Liverpool must avoid this 110-cap international in the summer

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing one of the biggest stories to emerge today – Cesc Fabregas to the Reds – as per The Daily Star.

Of course, when a story emerges like this there is always going to be a hive of excitement given the player and the clubs involved – whilst there is also a real sense of cynicism too.

We have to take it at face value, though, and if there is any truth in it you have to admit it would be quite the move as the Reds look to seriously challenge for the title and, potentially, contend with Champions League football.

Momentous it would be, then, but, arguably, it wouldn’t be the move Liverpool need to really affirm themselves as back amongst the elite of European football.

Make no mistake, the Spanish international is a class act and would improve many a side but he’s been left out of the Chelsea team for the exact same reason as to why he wouldn’t get in the Liverpool one – a lack of mobility.

Indeed, it’s pretty safe to assume that the Reds adopt a more energetic approach to matches than pretty much anyone else in the league.

Therefore, in the middle of midfield, they need players that are going to get about the pitch and back up the forward line’s press – something Fabregas simply doesn’t do.

He would, in fact, create an imbalance in the club’s midfield and, given the cost you’d expect he’d cause, the Reds would surely be better off spending that kind of cash on a player that suits Jurgen Klopp’s playing system far more.
