Huddled around the pool table in the Football Transfer Tavern, a group of Liverpool fans are getting quite excited by the prospect of Neven Subotic joining his former manager at Anfield after he showed an intent to leave Dortmund.
The Serbian international has fallen out of favour under Thomas Tuchel in Germany but was a mainstay for Der BVB during Jurgen Klopp’s time at the club.
Posting on Facebook yesterday, the 27-year-old said:
“Dear friends, during the last year I realised that my love for the game of football in an active role is too big to just be able to see it from outside. Football is an important part of my life. I love it and I can’t be without it,”
“I am in the best age for a football player and I want to use my time to improve myself and my team every day. And I want to have the feeling I am needed and I can give everything for my club. That is what I am thinking about.”
He added: “I do not want to earn my money on the bench, but to be a active part of the history like I was until last year. I hope you can understand that.
“Borussia Dortmund is the club of my heart and it will always be. Yours, Neven.”
A clear statement then that Subotic is set to move to pastures new and, considering the success he enjoyed under Klopp, the centre-half would be foolish not to consider a move to join his old boss at Liverpool with Klopp looking to force the Reds back into the upper echelons of the Premier League.
Liverpool are in the market for a defender with their French centre-back still awaiting to hear whether or not he will have to face a lengthy ban from UEFA.
With that in mind, Liverpool fans, are you as excited as the punters in the Football Transfer Tavern about seeing Subotic potentially at your club next season?
