Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are hoping for some more signings before the end of the window next month.
The Reds started the market brightly with Mo Salah and Dom Solanke arriving but since they have only managed to sign Andy Robertson.
Indeed, most of the talk this summer about the club and its potential deals has concerned Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk and it now looks as though it’s bad news concerning the former.
Indeed, according to Sky Sports, the Reds have now given up on trying to sign the midfielder this summer, with his current club Red Bull Leipzig making it perfectly clear they do not want to sell.
Certainly, bids for the player have been rejected already this summer and it now seems as though the Reds are going to have to move on to other targets for now.
It is thought, though, that the Reds still maintain an interest in the player and if the Bundesliga side’s stance changes on the potential deal, the Anfield side would be keen to try and strike a deal.
For now, though, it looks a no-go.
This has been one of the most enduring sagas of the summer and, for our local Reds, it’s not worked out how they would have liked.
Indeed, the powerful midfielder really is one of the players they could have done with signing but this could prove a blessing in disguise.
Indeed, Keita has only had one good season and so it would have still been a risk to sign him with it now looking likely that they’ll be able to monitor him in 2017/18 before going again.
