Ex-Liverpool man makes surprising transfer claim involving Man Utd star

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are really looking forward to seeing their side compete at the top of the Premier League this season.

Indeed, the Reds are one of the six clubs you’d think are going to challenge for the title this season coming and our landlord is certainly of the opinion that if they can get their defence sorted, they will be hard to stop.

For sure, then, the club is looking in good shape at the moment but their fans by the bar are certainly worrying Philippe Coutinho good be off to Barcelona.

Certainly, Coutinho is one of the club’s most important players and would be a big miss for the Reds but, according to former player Dean Saunders, he is replaceable.

Indeed, speaking to Talksport and as quoted by The Mirror, Saunders made the surprising claim that Liverpool should try and replace him with Manchester United’s Juan Mata – amongst others.

He said:

“For me, he’s replaceable. You could sign Isco for £30million. He’s not going to get a game at Real Madrid.

“Juan Mata, Gylfi Sigurdsson – there are players you could sign to replace Coutinho.”

A bold claim from Saunders, then, and our landlord has had his say on his comments.

Landlord’s Verdict

Juan Mata is certainly a top player but there is next to no chance that he’ll be swapping Manchester United for Liverpool.

The teams’ rivalry needs no introduction but, whilst that is one reason, the main reason is actually that Mata isn’t that well suited to the high-energy pressing football Jurgen Klopp wants to see his team display.

Isco may be the best option of the three, meanwhile, but he looks a more important figure at Real Madrid these days – particularly since James Rodriguez joined Bayern.
