Experienced midfielder casts doubt over Liverpool future

Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have ordered a fresh round as they discuss the latest rumours concerning their club, after picking up a copy of today’s papers.

The Daily Express states Lucas Leiva is refusing to commit his future to the Merseyside giants, with Italian outfit Inter Milan keeping close tabs on the Brazilian.

Lucas has featured just three times in the Premier League this season but scored the winning goal in the FA Cup third round clash with Plymouth this week, having made his return from a recent injury problem.

The 30-year-old is valued highly by Jurgen Klopp, who stated after the game that the veteran would not be leaving this month, but Lucas himself is far less convinced about where his future lies. Speaking about his future, he said:

“I had a few options to go and I have to think about my long-term future. I know I don’t have many years left here. I have to start to think about it. Liverpool is a place I love, there is no doubt about that. But this is more about thinking about my future as well – game time, things like I this. I have to deal with it.”

“So if, by the end of January, I am here, it will be great. This is the best place for me to be right now. But I cannot tell you in two months’ time, four months’ time or one year’s time. I have to think about my future. But it is all good. I am happy in this moment and I just have to go day-by day.”

Our landlord doesn’t believe Lucas will leave Anfield this month but doesn’t see the long-serving South American still being a part of the squad next season.

Liverpool fans, should Lucas be allowed to leave this month? Let us know in the comments below!
