As per Goal.com, Liverpool have made an enquiry about Valencia starlet Ferran Torres.
It seems that plenty of clubs are interested in the 20-year-old, who primarily plays as a winger. In England, Manchester City and Manchester United have been mentioned, whilst in Italy, Juventus are said to be in pursuit. Elsewhere, Atletico Madrid, Bayer Leverkusen, Borussia Monchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be in the running.
The youngster currently has a release clause of €100m (£88.2m) as per the report, but Los Ches may be forced to accept a smaller bid given that his contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021.
There is no doubt that Torres is one for the future. Even at his tender age, he has already become an important member of the Spanish club’s starting XI, having started 20 times in La Liga and five in the Champions League. All in all, he has six goals and seven assists in all competitions – he is in the top four amongst his teammates in both departments.
Obviously, Liverpool’s forward line is pretty settled at the moment. Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah are two of the best players on the planet, as the last Ballon d’Or rankings indicated, and there is little clamour to replace them. However, there have been rumours in recent weeks that Real Madrid are interested in the former in particular, whilst the latter has been linked to Los Merengues in the past too.
Should they win the league – eventually – this campaign, there will be little left for them to achieve at Anfield, which could convince them to seek out a new challenge. That would leave a gap open on either flank – one that would need to be filled. Torres is primarily a right-winger, but he has played on the left during his short career to date too – although he may be young, he would likely be able to slot into either role.
This Reds squad, which sits top of the Premier League with a 25-point lead, will need to be freshened up at some point. Torres could mark the beginning of that and mark the start of a new era at Anfield.
