According to a recent report from A Bola (via 90min), Liverpool are interested in a January move for midfielder Bruno Fernandes. The 24-year-old currently plays his football at Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon and has done so since leaving Sampdoria back in 2017, with his fine efforts for the Primeira Liga heavyweights seemingly attracting the interest of Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

And that’s because reports suggest that both Liverpool and indeed Merseyside rivals Everton are eyeing up a move for the Portugal international as both seek further midfield reinforcements, with it reported that a deal could be struck for as little as €40 million (£35.9 million).

And for just £35.9 million, Klopp simply must seal the signing that could help Liverpool finally win the Premier League title this season.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the Reds have given themselves every chance of going on and sealing their first league title since 1990 in the second half of the season, leading defending champions Manchester City by four points with just 17 matches of the campaign remaining.

Yet their 2-1 defeat to the Citizens last week did somewhat highlight the deficiencies the club have in the middle of the park, as although the likes of James Milner, Fabinho, and Georginio Wijnaldum have all had great seasons to date, none of them really possess that dynamism and creativity in the middle of the park.

The hope was that Naby Keita would be that addition having arrived from Red Bull Leipzig during the summer, but he has yet to really hit the heights, leaving manager Klopp with something to think about in that midfield area, especially given another more creative option in Adam Lallana seems a way away from producing his best form.

And that is why a move for 24-year-old Fernandes, who could cost as little as £35.9 million during the summer, is a must if Klopp’s men are to indeed go on and win their first title in the Premier League era.

The Portugal international has proven to be an absolute revelation at Sporting in the last 18 months or so, scoring 30 goals and laying on 29 assists in just 83 appearances for the club, equating to a direct contribution every 119 minutes of action.

That is a simply extraordinary return, with his 11 goals and ten assists playing a huge part in helping Sporting finish third in the Portuguese top-flight last time round, while his tally of 14 goals and nine assists already this term has helped the Primeira Liga outfit through their Europa League group - clearly, Fernandes is going from strength to strength.

And in excelling in a more attack-minded midfield role at the Portuguese heavyweights, the 24-year-old seems tailor-made for a similar sort of role at Anfield, thus becoming that flair and creative midfielder Liverpool appear to need in that area of the pitch.

And for just £35.9 million, it seems like an absolute no-brainer to get a deal done this month, as doing so may well seal the Reds the Premier League title come the end of the season.
