Forget Alisson: Liverpool must now seek to land £63m-rated ace following recent reports

Liverpool supporters have been in fine voice in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their team make a winning return to the Premier League courtesy of a 3-0 success over Bournemouth on Saturday.

Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their meeting with the Cherries off the back of a 2-1 win over Manchester City in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final on Tuesday, a result which saw them secure a routine 5-1 aggregate success over the Citizens to thus book their spot in the last four. And the Reds returned to league matters with another comfortable victory on Saturday as goals from Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah, and Roberto Firmino sealed all three points for the Merseysiders, thus keeping them on course for a second successive top four finish.

As such, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are revelling in their side’s magnificent season to date, which could get a whole lot better in the weeks to come given they face Roma in the semi-finals of the Champions League.

In the meantime though, there has been much for our resident Reds supporters to get their teeth into, not least recent reports suggesting that their Champions League opponents Roma will not sell reported target Alisson this summer.

And these recent reports should prompt Klopp’s side to forget about a move for the 25-year-old, and instead turn their attentions to luring £63 million-rated Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak (as per Transfermarkt) to Anfield this summer.

Ultimately, the 25-year-old has propelled himself towards the top of the goalkeeping ranks across Europe during his time in the Spanish capital, with the Slovenia international conceding just 92 goals in 154 appearances for Diego Simeone’s side, in which time he has kept a remarkable 89 clean sheets.

And while there’s little doubting that the Atletico backline have something to do with those staggering figures, Oblak does as well, which is why he is widely renowned by many as one of the best goalkeepers in the continent at present.

And those numbers are the sort of numbers which would turn Liverpool into title contenders next season.

Yes, the Reds have been much-improved defensively in recent times, but concerns still remain among some of our resident Liverpool fans over their side’s defensive capabilities over the course of the campaign, with neither Loris Karius or Simon Mignolet completely convincing of their abilities.

The former currently has the gloves and appears to be Klopp’s number one for the foreseeable future, yet he simply isn’t in the same league as the likes of Ederson, Thibaut Courtois, and David De Gea, the first two playing key parts in their respective sides’ title successes in the last two years.

And Liverpool also need someone of that calibre to turn them into contenders next season – Oblak could be that man.

The Reds have been linked with a move for the 25-year-old in recent times, and given reports that Alisson won’t be sold by Roma this summer, Klopp and the Liverpool hierarchy must forget about the Brazilian and instead focus their efforts on luring Oblak to Anfield.
