Forget Alisson: Liverpool should go all out for £13.5m-rated Serie A shot-stopper instead

Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are becoming accustomed to a strong Liverpool side having the ability to qualify for the Champions League but if they want to raise their game to the next level, the Reds are still in desperate need for summer recruits to join.

This season has again been filled with goalkeeping uncertainties with Simon Mignolet and Loris Karius both finding their position replaced at parts during the season. Although German Karius has now established his place as number one, Liverpool would be smart to look for a new shot-stopper this season.

One name our punters are keen to suggest is Serie A keeper Mattia Perin, who is valued at £13.50 million on Transfermarkt. The Italian goalkeeper currently plays his football for Genoa who sit around mid-table, mainly with help from their captain.

Perin has played in every single Serie A game thus far and in 28 games, conceded 29 but managed to secure 10 clean sheets. The 25-year-old is already his team’s captain and has been number one for years now. His experience despite being at a young age for a goalkeeper is desirable for Liverpool who are a club hoping to continue their rise.

The Italian shot-stopper is a name under the radar and isn’t as mentioned as other Liverpool target Alisson. Despite his name not being as well known, that doesn’t mean that Perin doesn’t have the potential to eclipse the Brazilian.

Landlords verdict:

Mattia Perin is a goalie capable of being a big name in the future and a move from Genoa to Liverpool would certainly assist a raise in profile.
