Forget Coutinho: Klopp’s Liverpool dream relies on keeping Anfield star as long as possible

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are delighted with the progress their side have made in recent weeks…

Liverpool have taken their fair share of criticism already this season after a number of high-profile catastrophic defensive performances caught the attention of the British media. However, the defensive frailties that were so prevalent in their early season endeavours appear to have been eradicated by Jurgen Klopp on the training pitch in recent weeks. The quality of Liverpool’s attacking football has become the dominant narrative concerning the club’s recent performances with summer-signing Mohamed Salah deservedly claiming the majority of the plaudits.

Salah has taken no time at all to adapt to his surroundings at Anfield and is already something of a Premier League sensation after a blistering start.

The Egyptian who signed from Roma for £36.9 million in the summer, has already scored 17 goals for the club from his first 22 matches, and his total of 12 in the Premier League has made him the league’s top-goalscorer.

With that being said, it is no surprise that the Kopites propping up the bar here are troubled by reports emerging from Egyptian broadcaster ON Sport TV, that claim Real Madrid are interested in bringing Mo Salah to the club in January.

Liverpool’s recent performances suggest that the current squad are capable of mounting a genuine title challenge next season after the arrival of Naby Keita and a handful of key defensive acquisitions.

But that suggestion is reliant upon Klopp’s ability to convince his strongest players to remain at the club, and on the evidence of Liverpool’s season so far, there is no stronger player than Mo Salah at Anfield.

If Liverpool want to go toe to toe with the top-teams next season, then it is imperative they convince Salah to snub the advances of Madrid in the coming transfer windows.
