Former hero completes return to West Ham

In news that will definitely please the West Ham fans here at the Football Transfer Tavern, The Mirror have reported that Joe Cole has finalised his return to Upton Park.

Of course Cole has suffered a nightmare few years since his move from Chelsea and due to injury and lack of chances never really settled in at Liverpool who were so desperate to offload the player that they sent him on his way with a hefty £3 million departing gift.

Cole of course returns to the club he knows so well and one that he started his career at all those years ago. Now a 31-year-old, Cole will don the number 26 shirt again and will hope to recreate some of the form that caught everyone’s eye during his first spell at Upton Park.

The former England international has signed a deal that will keep him at the club until 2015 and stated that: “It’s a great move for me. Coming back here brings back all the memories of the pitch I learned to play on. I’ve always loved West Ham and I hope I can give the club a few memorable seasons.”

As our landlord points out, despite Cole having a nightmare time of late, he still has something to give and Sam Allardyce will certainly feel he is someone who can bring the best out of the player, noting that: “It is a great deal for us. As someone as talented and enthusiastic he is, he was just wanted to talk about football and not about money so it is a real pleasure to bring him back.”

Cole goes straight into the squad for the FA Cup tie against Manchester United this weekend and will be hoping to give the fans something to cheer about upon his return home.
