In a wide ranging interview for FourFourTwo, former Liverpool and England striker Emile Heskey has said he believes that Liverpool need to keep with Daniel Sturridge, because he is one of the most talented strikers the club has and our Reds fans in the Transfer Tavern are inclined to agree.
The Englishman and former Chelsea forward has not featured much for the club this season and has seen the Brazilian Roberto Firmino take his place as the main forward, but Heskey believes, when Sturridge is fit, there are few players like him around.
When asked if the club should persist with him, Heskey said: “Most definitely – he’s an outstanding talent! One of those players who can just make something out of nothing. He’s had a slow start to the season, but when he is fit and on form there are very few in his calibre.”
Sturridge has yet to score in the Premier League season after falling down the pecking order with Jurgen Klopp due to injury problems last season.
He has scored in the EFL Cup and continues to be selected for England and made his 100th appearance for the Reds against Manchester United on Monday night, but was subbed in the second half as the game finished 0-0.
Our landlord here in the Transfer Tavern thinks Sturridge is a superb striker, but simply needs to go on a goalscoring run to get him back to his best.
