Frustrating news for Man United as Liverpool hold upper hand in transfer deal

Manchester United and Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have had to be separated this morning, after fresh reports emerged that suggested the two rivals will be fighting on the transfer market this summer.

ESPN sources indicate that Liverpool boos Jurgen Klopp is keen on bringing Burnley defender Michael Keane to Anfield this summer and is prepared to fight the likes of Manchester United and Everton for the England international’s signature.

Keane has excelled for the Clarets this season, earning his England debut last month, and Jose Mourinho has instructed his club to keep tabs on the 24-year-old, just two-years after he left Old Trafford to join Burnley.

Whilst a return to Manchester United could be appealing for Keane, Liverpool will look to tempt the youngster to move to Anfield instead – and Champions League opportunities could be decisive in any deal.

Playing in Europe’s elite competition next season will bolster Keane’s chances of making the England squad for next summer’s World Cup and Liverpool are currently better-placed than United, as they sit third in the Premier League.

However, victory for Manchester United in the Manchester derby on Thursday would see the Red Devils pull level with Liverpool in the standings and the Reds will also be wary of Arsenal, who are nine points behind but have three games in hand.

Our landlord doesn’t rate Liverpool’s chances of completing a deal for Keane too highly though, as he feels he wouldn’t move to Anfield having represented United previously.

What move would be best for Keane this summer? Let us know in the comments below!
