The Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern are absolutely fuming. Indeed, while the Reds just enjoyed a campaign that saw them reach the Champions League final and Mo Salah break the Premier League goalscoring record, the punters propping up our bar cannot believe recent transfer reports.
That’s because, according to the Daily Mirror, the club are keen on a move for Stoke City’s Xherdan Shaqiri. Relegated with the Potters, the Swiss is believed to have a relegation release clause in his contract and an enquiry is understood to have been made by the Anfield giants.
Though talented, the former Bayern Munich and Inter Milan ace isn’t exactly the kind of player who would improve Liverpool’s options. Quite a way off of their current three, the fact Nabil Fekir links have now turned into Shaqiri ones has seriously annoyed our local Kopites.
With that in mind, here’s a look at the reaction on Twitter.
Why on earth are we favourites to sign Shaqiri? Be terrible if we get him. Waste of money

My take: Shaqiri isn't a real target, just a fallback. We will sign Fekir and another versatile wide forward that fits our system better. Hughes will sign Shaqiri for Southampton.
