FSG should sign this hugely talented £13.5m-rated African striker to challenge Roberto Firmino

The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are far from content with their mid-season spending so far, despite the fact they brought Virgil Van Dijk to the club in a world-record breaking deal.

The Kopites in the Tavern were delighted to see Van Dijk arrive at the club, but they feel Klopp needs to make at least one more signing before the end of the month to strengthen their bid to finish inside the top-four this season. Liverpool’s need for further talent has been intensified by the departure of Philippe Coutinho, however, there is enough strength in Liverpool’s attacking midfield to suggest that the acquisition of a number ten will not be necessary this month.

Liverpool’s options to fill the void left by Coutinho include Adam Lallana, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Mo Salah and Roberto Firmino. The latter appears particularly suited to the role considering that he prefers to drop deep in possession to collect the ball when leading the line for Liverpool.

But if Firmino is to drop deeper into Liverpool’s midfield then The Reds will need a striker to slot into the Brazilian’s role up-front. According to The Sun, Liverpool are interested in bringing West Bromwich Albion striker Salomon Rondon to Anfield this month to bolster their forward line despite his modest goal-scoring record in the English top-flight.

Rondon has not been prolific enough during his career at The Hawthorns to justify a move to Anfield this month, so Klopp should instead turn his attention to Leicester City outcast Kelechi Iheanacho (valued at £13.5 million by Transfermarkt).

The former Man City striker is a genuine talent waiting to be unearthed in the Premier League, but he has not had the opportunity to prove himself since his move to Leicester City last summer. Iheanacho made 64 appearances for The Citizens, scoring 21 goals and assisting 8 in process. His record is incredibly impressive for such a young player, but it’s his overall style of play that would make him a huge success at Anfield.

Iheanacho will rapidly become a prolific Premier League striker once he is handed the game time he needs and deserves, so Klopp must make one of the shrewdest signings of the window this month to provide healthy competition for Firmino.
