Liverpool have struggled for form recently – and in the past few weeks have seen themselves ejected from both the FA Cup and Champions League, leaving the Premier League their only contention for more silverware this season.
Over the past few months, the Reds’ lead at the top of the table continued to grow and has now left them 25 points clear of second-place Manchester City. This gulf in class and contention for Liverpool to win the treble prior to recent events – led to many comparisons of this Liverpool side and that of the Manchester United treble-winning team of 1998/99.
It is common knowledge in the footballing stratosphere that Gary Neville was a part of that treble-winning side, and it is also common knowledge that his opinions on Liverpool’s recent dip have been broadcasted across his social media.
To add insult to injury, a recent tweet from James Ducker – the Northern Football Correspondent for the Daily Telegraph, detailing the comparisons between the two sides – has prompted a response from Neville in spectacular emoji-inspired fashion.
