The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been wiping their brows after scraping through their FA Cup 3rd-round replay against Plymouth Argyle last night and the Reds propping up the bar are simply glad it’s all over.
The Kop titans have somewhat stalled of late and those on Merseyside are slightly concerned about the nature of their performance at Home Park, particularly that of Daniel Sturridge’s. The England international failed to have much impact on the south coast last night and the last few months of his career have perhaps been his most barren.
Which are exactly why quotes in the Daily Mirror from Steven Gerrard have sparked such intrigue amongst the Kopites in the Tavern. Speaking to BT Sport as a pundit last night, the former England skipper has given his take on Sturridge’s situation under Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.
The 27-year-old has suffered a nightmare few years with injuries with the club and has been linked with moves to the likes of West Ham United and Southampton, almost three years after he and Luis Suarez formed the most devastating frontline the Premier League had seen in years.
“I know Daniel won’t want to be third choice, and I know he won’t want to be a bit-part player”, he said.
“So I’m sure he’s going to keep an eye on what happens between now and the end of the season and then he’ll have to make maybe a big decision but if you’re Jurgen Klopp you want to keep him because on his day he’s world class.”
As popular as he was with the Liverpool-mad punters in the Tavern, many of them believe Klopp’s project has moved on without him and feel his time could be up.
