Liverpool remain top of the Premier League table on deadline day but are yet to make a signing.

Jurgen Klopp has opted to keep his chequebook closed as he clearly believes his current squad is strong enough to end Liverpool’s wait for a league crown. The Reds have endured a mini injury crisis in recent weeks with a number of defenders facing spells on the sidelines. Klopp has been forced to use Fabinho at centre back and James Milner at right-back to cover for absentees.

There is no room for error in the title race and more injuries could cost Liverpool dearly in the long-term. Both Dejan Lovren and Joel Matip have proven to be unreliable in recent seasons with Joe Gomez also struggling to stay fit in the long-term. Adding another defender could prove to be a wise decision on deadline day.

One man Klopp could target is Atalanta defender – Gianluca Mancini. Valued at £9m by Transfermarkt, the 22-year-old has developed into a crucial first-team player since joining the club from Perugia back in 2017. Mancini has been ever-present for his team this season, making 16 appearances in the Serie A so far.

The youngster shows maturity beyond his years and could prove to be a mainstay in the Liverpool defence. Mancini is an excellent defender who is strong in the tackle and reads the game well. The Italian is also dominant in the air meaning he should have no issues dealing with the physicality of the Premier League. As well as his defensive prowess, Mancini has proven to be a massive threat from set-pieces helping his side’s cause with five goals already this season.

With the potential to be special, a deadline day move could be an astute piece of business from Klopp.
