After his poor performances last season, Liverpool need a new goalkeeper to sure them up at the back.

The German goalkeeper has never really convinced since his arrival from Mainz. Liverpool's attacking options are already some of the best in the world but nearer the back, the Reds still need to strengthen.

Liverpool's hunt for silverware was hindered last season by poor defending and goalkeeping mishaps. The Reds have been linked with Alisson over the last few months, and as a result of Karius' continuous blunders, Liverpool have finally put in a £53 million bid for the Roma goalkeeper, according to The Sun.

The bid comes in at £9 million short of Roma’s £62 million valuation but Roma could still accept the bid. The 25-year-old shot stopper would earn just over £100,000-a-week at Anfield but is thought to prefer a move to Real Madrid.

The Breakdown

Alisson established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe last season with his superb performances in Italy. The Brazilian international kept 22 clean sheets for Roma last season and can basically do it all.

Great with the ball at his feet, a great shot stopper and commanding presence in the box, Alisson has all the ingredients to become the top goalkeeper in the world.

Karius on the other hand just doesn’t look like he’ll ever become the goalkeeper Liverpool need. Every time a ball goes anywhere near him, everyone in the stadium expects him to make a blunder and so does he.

So what do you think Liverpool fans?
