Liverpool should still be searching for a Philippe Coutinho replacement in the January transfer window.

Jurgen Klopp is yet to replace the talismanic Brazilian who left for Barcelona for over £100m back in January. Ultimately, Liverpool didn’t miss the playmaker for the remainder of the season and reached the Champions League final as well as securing another top-four finish in the Premier League. Klopp strengthened his squad heavily in the summer window but failed to sign a playmaker with a move for Nabil Fekir collapsing at the last minute.

The Reds are currently unbeaten in the Premier League but have been performing far from their best. With their front three struggling to hit the heights of last year, it could be argued that Liverpool still need to sign a playmaker when the window reopens in January.

One man who should remain top of Klopp’s shortlist is Ajax maestro – Hakim Ziyech. Valued at £27m by Transfermarkt, the Morocco international has been one of the most consistent performers in the Eredivisie during recent years. Ziyech has ended as the top provider in the league for the past two seasons, creating an incredible 17 goals for his team-mates last year.

Once again, Ziyech has been in top form, netting nine goals and registering eight assists in all competitions already this season. His creativity and ingenuity in the engine room would help Liverpool’s forwards get firing again and give Liverpool another weapon to help catch Manchester City in the title race. Still only 25-years-old, Ziyech is yet to hit the height of his ability and would just get better under Klopp’s tutelage.

Some Liverpool fans are unable to get visions of Fekir in a Liverpool shirt out of their mind – landing Ziyech would help soften the blow of losing out on the World Cup winner.

Liverpool fans, thoughts?
