Liverpool fans have been kept busy this summer in the Transfer Tavern.
Next season could be a huge year for Jurgen Klopp. The German is close to having an almost all-star team and one that could seriously challenge Manchester City for the title next year. With Fabinho and Keita, Liverpool have improved their midfielder massively but at the back and in goal, the club still could improve.
While Van Dijk has been a mammoth at the back since he arrived in Januar, he needs to have a stable partner next to him. One player that would be an ideal partner for the Dutchman is England Wolrd Cup hero, Harry Maguire.
The Leicester City man has had a superb tournament so far and got better and better with every game. The 25-year-old scored the opening goal against Sweden in the quarter-final and was a rock against Colombia, impressing even in defeat against Croatia at the semi-final stage.
Much like Van Dijk, Maguire is incredibly strong in the air. Whenever a ball got sent long towards him against Colombia or Sweden, the former Sheffield United man deal with it. It’s not just in the air he excels either, Maguire is incredibly strong and actually quicker than you might think for the man of his size.
However, much like most modern defenders, he’s also good with the ball at his feet and has the capability to pick the ball up from the back and push forward into midfield. He’s only spent a year at Leicester City but if Liverpool want to win the league, they need to have a solid centre-back pairing. Put in a big bid for Maguire and they might have one hand on the trophy already.
