Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern have been babbling over the news that instant cult hero Jurgen Klopp has extended his contract with the club by six years, a deal that cements the managers long term intentions, but news has reached the bar that another Anfield favourite could be heading for the door marked, ‘EXIT’.
The Telegraph is reporting that the Euro 2016 Anfield star, Joe Allen, is being pursued by a host of clubs including current Europa League Champions, Sevilla, as well as Premier League outfits such as Swansea and Southampton.
The man hailed by many as the ‘Welsh Xavi’ has excelled in a deep role for his country, and his efforts have not gone unnoticed. Where the 26-year-old will be next term is uncertain but Klopp’s willingness to start Emre Can ahead of the Welshman last season, coupled with the interest in signing defensive midfielder Mahmoud Dahoud, of Borussia Monchengladbach, means that a move away from Anfield will be the most likely outcome.
However, Liverpool’s asking price, reportedly around £14m, is yet to be matched and Allen has 12 months remaining on his contract.
Liverpool fans, do you think Allen, like his boss, should be offered a new deal? Saints and Swansea fans, would you like to see the Welshman in your squad? Let us know in the comments below…
