Ideal Xmas XI: Liverpool

Ideal Xmas XI: Liverpool - Liverpool

Liverpool still have a long way to go in the current Premier League campaign, but they’ll fancy themselves in the race against Manchester City.

The Reds still have plenty of opportunities to secure silverware this season, having made it through to the knockout stages of the Champions League and with their FA Cup tie against Wolves still to come next month.

FSG will have one eye on the January transfer window with the Christmas period now here, as a couple of quality additions could possibly gift Liverpool the Premier League title.

Indeed, the sad reality is that injuries and departures will always cause problems, but if everything went to plan and nothing was negative, this is what Liverpool’s ideal Xmas XI would look like…

Alisson Becker has solved Liverpool’s goalkeeping problems and single-handedly sent them through in the Champions League, as he pulled off a last-gasp save against Napoli.

It’s safe to say that Virgil Van Dijk has established himself as one of the best defenders in world football in the current campaign, with Joe Gomez making great strides alongside him.

Andy Robertson is arguably one of the most underrated players in the Premier League, as he continues to put in world-class performances without fail. Also, Trent Alexander-Arnold is a big danger from wide areas with his crossing ability and he’s starting to develop his defensive game, so he has a bright future ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Georginio Wijnaldum has worked his socks off in the current campaign, tracking back and contributing.

Alex Teixeira is a player that Liverpool tried to sign prior to his move to China, and they’ve been linked with him once again in recent times, so perhaps they can finally secure the Brazilian as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho.

The Reds’ front three will consist of Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino. Sadly, the latter has struggled to contribute on a consistent basis but he was the standout performer against the Red Devils recently, so Klopp should stick by him for now. And, Mane and Salah need no introduction, they’re priceless.
