Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are packing their suitcases ahead of their trip to Ukraine where they will face Real Madrid in the final of the Champions League.
The Reds guaranteed Champions League football at Anfield next season regardless of the result in Kiev by defeating Brighton 4-0 at the weekend which secured a top-four finish in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp heads into the final with a number of key players missing through injury. The German knows that adding squad depth is a must in the summer window.
Liverpool have already confirmed one transfer with Naby Keita set to finally seal his move to Merseyside from RB Leipzig for £54m. The Reds could also be set to bring another goalkeeper to Anfield with Simon Mignolet expected to leave the club. While Loris Karius has been an improvement, a world-class keeper is required if they are to challenge for the title.
Instead of breaking the bank for Alisson Becker, they should instead make an audacious attempt to sign AC Milan goalkeeper – Gianluigi Donnarumma. Valued at £36m by Transfermarkt, the 19-year-old could be set to leave the club after they missed out on Champions League football again. And if Liverpool lift their sixth European Cup, they could surely lure him to Anfield.
The Italian has made more saves per 90 minutes and saves per goal than both of Liverpool’s current keepers. He has also retained a higher distribution accuracy and made more catches on average according to Squawka.
With Donnarumma between the sticks and Virgil van Dijk in front of him, Klopp would have an almost impenetrable defence.
