Liverpool began their season with a brilliant 4-0 over West Ham at the weekend as Klopp began his hunt for a Premier League title.
With that attacking trio, Liverpool were simply too much for Manuel Pellegrini’s team to handle.
Salah, Firmino and Mane were all worryingly sharp, while in midfield, Naby Keita looks like he could be a star for Klopp this season.
At the back, Alisson was never really troubled and was protected brilliantly by Virgil Van Dijk and Joe Gomez.
While there has been much talk about Dejan Lovren as Van Dijk’s centre-back partner but, at the weekend, Gomez showcased why he should be the club’s first-choice defender alongside the Dutchman.
The Merseyside club had been heavily linked with a move for Croatian defender, Domagoj Vida over the summer but a move never materialised. However, with Gomez at the back, the club seem to already have Van Dijk’s ideal defensive partner at the club.
Quick, strong and good with the ball, although he’s less experienced than Lovren, the English defender has all the qualities to be a top class centre-back.
Last season, he made most of his appearances for Liverpool as a right-back but, with the emergence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Klopp now has that position filled, but that looks set to be to Gomez’s advantage.
Lovren always seems ready to make a mistake whenever he plays for Liverpool, and while there might not be any guarantee that Gomez won’t do the same, he’s certainly a better option than Lovren at the back.
Thus, the England international is the ideal partner for Van Dijk in the heart of the Reds backline, not Croatian star Lovren.
