Liverpool supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last week or so after seeing their team all but book their spot in the quarter-finals of the Champions League after sweeping aside Porto 5-0 in the first leg of their last 16 clash on Wednesday.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their meeting with the Portuguese giants off the back of dispatching Southampton 2-0 in the Premier League a few days earlier, a result which moved them to within two points of second place Manchester United. And the Reds continued their fine run on Wednesday as a hat-trick from Sadio Mane as well as strikes from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed an easy win for the Merseyside giants, all but securing their place in the last eight ahead of the return leg in a fortnight’s time.
Consequently, there have been many thrilled Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from Sky Sports, in which Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague discloses some promising news regarding the future of Reds chief Klopp.
The former Borussia Dortmund boss took over at Anfield back in October 2015 and has since led the Merseyside giants back into the Champions League, having finished fourth in last season’s Premier League campaign.
And with his side sat third with just 11 games to go this term, things are again looking good for Liverpool, with Klopp’s efforts seemingly attracting interest from Real Madrid, who could well part with Zinedine Zidane this summer given their relatively below-par campaign so far.
Yet journalist Balague has all but ruled out that the Liverpool boss will replace Zidane, saying: ‘Klopp will stay at Liverpool though because he’s somebody that wants to stay for seven years at Anfield as we read in the Raphael Honigstein book.
‘That means Real will have to look elsewhere.’
And this update is sure to delight our resident Liverpudlians, who have seen Klopp completely transform their club in the last 18 months, and will be hoping that he stays to take them to the next level that is winning major honours.
Landlord’s verdict: Jurgen Klopp deserves enormous credit for the job that he has done at Liverpool, transforming the Reds into a side looking set for back-to-back top four finishes in the Premier League.
As such, the German’s efforts appear to have attracted the interest of Real Madrid, whose poor season by their standards could well spell the end for manager Zinedine Zidane.
However, Spanish football journalist Guillem Balague has all but ruled Klopp out from taking over at the Bernabeu, in news which is sure to come as a huge relief and big boost to Liverpool fans up and down the country.
