The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left rather red-faced recently, following their club’s public apology and ending of interest in Southampton star Virgil van Dijk.
Many thought the Dutchman would become the club’s record signing and finally plug their leaky backline, though any move to Merseyside now looks to be dead in the water.
So, as if that wasn’t bad enough news, notable Italian journalist Tancredi Palmeri has taken to Twitter to reveal even more dismal news on the defensive front.

Indeed, the Reds are believed to have seen a bid for Lazio and Holland star Stefan de Vrij snubbed by the Serie A side. The Dutchman has just one year left on his deal in the Italian capital, though I Biancazzurri are said to have rejected any advances from the Kop.
The 26-year-old impressed under former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal at the 2014 World Cup and many of the punters propping up the bar believe he’d be a good addition to their rearguard.
Still, a €20m, a fee that roughly equates to £17.35m, bid is reported to have been turned down, much to the annoyance of our local Liverpool fans.
