The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern have rarely been convinced by their American owners at the best of times over the years.
FSG have a lot of making up to do if the Kopites in the bar are to be convinced, though reports from Liverpool Echo are at least positive.
Reporter James Pearce sat down for a fans’ question-and-answer session on
Having fallen by the wayside in the Premier League title race amid some key injuries in a relatively thin squad, the Merseyside drinkers in the bar are hoping for a big summer of transfer activity.
Well, Pearce suggested that’s exactly what he expects to happen this summer. Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig midfielder Naby Keita are touted as major targets, in a summer outlay that could reach figures of around £120/130m.
“I’m not aware of any exact amount being put on Klopp’s kitty but the way that he’s been talking about competing at the top end of the market means he’s clearly aiming high,” he says.
“There’s certainly a realisation from FSG that the squad needs strengthening with established talent.’
”I’d expect it to be the biggest spending spree in the club’s history. How much? My guess would be around £120million/£130million but that figure would include sales.”
