Alberto Moreno’s latest comments in the media will serve only to accelerate his exit from Liverpool in the near future.
The Spaniard has endured a torrid time on Merseyside since joining from Sevilla during the Brendan Rodgers era. Erratic defensive displays saw Jurgen Klopp opt to sign Andy Robertson from Hull and the Scotland international took his opportunity with both hands, making the left-back berth his own. Robertson has become a hero on the Kop leaving Moreno with virtually no chance of reclaiming his spot in the team.
His comments in the media last week stated his unhappiness at the club due to his lack of first-team football – with only a few months remaining on his deal – Liverpool are surely unlikely to stand in his way of departing. With no other recognised left-backs at the club, Klopp should be forced into the market for a new left-sided defender.
The ideal target would be Real Betis flyer – Junior Firpo. Valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt, the full-back progressed through the club’s youth academy and now enjoys a prominent role in the first-team. Firpo has been ever-present for his side during his 15 appearances in La Liga so far.
Landing the 22-year-old would provide excellent competition and allow Klopp to rotate his squad to keep Robertson fit. The Spain U21 international is a potent attacking threat, helping his side’s cause with three goals and two assists in all competitions this season. Unlike Moreno, Firpo doesn’t neglect his defensive duties, averaging 1.7 tackles per game in La Liga this season (WhoScored).
Under Klopp’s tutelage, the youngster is only going to improve and has all the attributes to be a massive success in the Premier League.
