As per Bleacher Report, Liverpool may well make a move for Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips this summer.
Dean Jones was taking part in a Q&A for the outlet, and was asked a variety of questions on a number of clubs in terms of transfers.
According to him, Liverpool will look to add a squad player in midfield, and Leeds’ Phillips could well be the one they have an eye on.
In the last year or so, Phillips’ stock has gone through the roof. Before Marcelo Bielsa arrived, he was more of an attack-minded midfielder – he scored seven times during the 2017/18 campaign – but the Argentinian has turned him into a deeper-lying player instead, and it has paid dividends.
He has averaged a WhoScored rating of 7.2 in the Championship this term, and he has already attracted the interest of Tottenham in recent weeks and months. The Whites, of course, will be keen to hold onto to their star asset – LeedsLive said it would take a bid of over £40m to convince the Yorkshire outfit to sell.
Would you like to sign Kalvin Phillips?
Phillips would certainly fit into Liverpool’s transfer policy moving forward – he is young at the age of 24, for example, and he certainly would have a lot to prove at Anfield as it would be a step up. This is in keeping with the Reds signing younger, hungry players previously such as Harvey Elliott, instead of bringing in the finished article.
Signing a second-tier player would be a gamble from Michael Edwards, but it could end up being a stroke of genius.
