Liverpool supporters remain hugely buoyant in the Transfer Tavern a week on from their team’s sensational 5-0 thumping of Porto in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie, a result which all but books their place in the quarter-finals.
Jurgen Klopp’s men went into their clash with the Portuguese heavyweights unbeaten in European competition this season, having won three and drawn the other three of their group games alongside wins over Hoffenheim in the two-legged play-off back in August. And the Reds all but secured their spot in the last eight of Europe’s elite competition as a hat-trick from Sadio Mane as well as strikes from Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino sealed a comprehensive victory for the Merseysiders, setting them up perfectly for the visit of West Ham in the Premier League on Saturday.
Thus, there have been many delighted Liverpudlians in the Tavern in recent times, several of whom are likely to be interested by a recent report from Diario Gol, which suggests that Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas is another goalkeeper on Klopp’s shortlist ahead of the summer transfer window.
The 31-year-old made the move to the Bernabeu back in 2014 after impressing for Costa Rica in the World Cup in Brazil earlier that year, and he has since gone on to make 124 appearances for the Spanish giants, keeping 41 clean sheets and conceding just 119 goals in that time.
And given how impressive the 31-year-old has been for Real in recent times, he could well turn out to be the answer to Liverpool’s goalkeeping concerns.
Landlord’s verdict: Liverpool’s goalkeeping issues have been well-documented for a while now, with neither Simon Mignolet or current number one Loris Karius doing enough to convince of their capabilities.
As such, Jurgen Klopp’s side appear to be on the lookout for another shot-stopper, and while Roma’s Alisson appears to be top of the list, Real Madrid’s Keylor Navas is reportedly also on the shortlist.
The 31-year-old has done reasonably well since moving to the Bernabeu four years ago, but with the European champions struggling this term, a summer overhaul could be in the offing, with both Thibaut Courtois and David De Gea repeatedly linked with the club.
And were either to make the move, Navas’ time as number one would be over, thus potentially increasing the prospect of the £16.2 million-rated ace (as per Transfermarkt) making the move to Anfield during the summer.
