Klopp pinpoints where blame should lie after terrible start to 2017

Our Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern have gone from delighted to in despair in a matter of weeks recently and, as quoted by The Liverpool Echo, Jurgen Klopp is blaming himself.

Going into January the Reds were firm title challengers and had the potential to get into the EFL Cup final but since the wheels have fallen right off.

They’ve been knocked out of both cups and now even a top four finish looks like it could be in the balance right up until May.

For many, it’s the lack of signings in January that has ruined their season and it seems that their German boss does not want anyone else to take the blame but himself for that.

The former Dortmund manager said after the Reds’ loss at Hull City:

“What’s very important, never blame anybody else for your own mistakes. That’s not the case.

“I cannot change my answer only because we played bad football today. I cannot say ‘yes it would be fantastic if the club gave me the opportunity’, we had from the club side the opportunity to do something but we didn’t find the right players.

“That’s because the players were not available.

“We tried different things, it’s not a money issue or whatever different reason.

“I take everything. If you say now ‘not enough players, not good enough players’ I have to take it.”

It seems then that the German is trying to deflect as much criticism as possible away from his players in light of what’s been a torrid 2017 so far.

Certainly, many Liverpool punters here by the bar have gotten angry with their players’ performances but they also want to see Klopp come up with a plan B – something he has failed to do so so far.
