Klopp rebuffed in transfer pursuit of one of Europe’s very best players – Report

Liverpool fans here in the Tavern are still weighing up potential candidates for Philippe Coutinho’s replacement, as the Reds go on in search of the Brazilian’s successor.

Jurgen Klopp has prided his success thus far on his transfer window business, with many of the Reds’ recent accomplishments coming from the brilliance of the German’s decision-making. And, it appears as if the 50-year-old is looking to begin his search for the summer already, as a longstanding target is being eyed up by the former Borussia Dortmund manager. Indeed, according to reports in the Don Balon, Klopp asked Real Madrid about the possibility of bringing James Rodriguez to Anfield but was told he’s not for sale.

The Colombian ace has been on Klopp’s hit list for some time now, as the hunt for Philippe Coutinho’s long-term replacement appears to drag on. And, the Liverpool chief has set his sights firmly on securing the services of Rodriguez in the summer, after making contact with Real Madrid to submit an interest.

Indeed, the midfielder moved to German giants Bayern Munich on a two-year loan deal in the summer, and has since taken the Bundesliga outfit to the brink of obtaining an inevitable league title. Yet Liverpool want to secure a permanent deal for the Colombian in the summer, something that’s not of interest to Los Blancos at this moment in time.

Of course, this is the kind of setback that could cause for the Reds to reconsider their options, with plenty of cash still in the bank after the sale of Philippe Coutinho. But, having completed many significant pieces of business in previous windows, Klopp won’t let a bit of negativity dampen his hopes of bringing the midfielder to Anfield.

Landlord’s Verdict:

The Colombian is undoubtedly one of the most accomplished attacking midfielders in the whole of world football, with his performances so far this season just highlighting his brilliance. Although, as the Reds continue in their efforts to bring the 26-year-old to Anfield, Real Madrid’s response will be a major spanner in the works.
