Liverpool supporters in the Transfer Tavern are looking forward to the 2018/19 Premier League season, what with their side hoping to build upon an impressive campaign last time round to finally challenge for the title.
Jurgen Klopp’s men enjoyed a decent season in finishing fourth in the Premier League for a second straight year, at the same time reaching the Champions League final only to be beaten by Spanish giants Real Madrid. Nonetheless, there are many optimistic Reds fans that Klopp can be the man to bring the good times back to Anfield, with several hopeful that their side will indeed challenge the likes of Manchester City for the Premier League title this season.
As such, there are many excited and expectant Liverpudlians in the Tavern at present, several of whom are likely to be interested by recent reports linking Borussia Dortmund’s Mario Gotze with a move to the Premier League.
Yet Liverpool should seek to throw their hat into the ring for the £16.2 million-rated star (as per Transfermarkt), as a reunion with Klopp at Anfield could well get the best out of the 26-year-old once again.
Ultimately, it was under Klopp at Dortmund where the Germany international really made a name for himself a few years ago, with the attacker eventually earning a move to Bayern Munich back in 2013 having scored 31 goals in 116 appearances in his first spell.
And given Dortmund themselves were at their very best under the now-Liverpool chief, it’s clear that he knew exactly how to extract the best of out that group of players, and that is none-more-so evident than with Gotze, who arguably hasn’t been at his peak since leaving Dortmund first time round.
Yes, the 26-year-old still went on to score 36 goals and lay on 24 assists in three seasons at Bayern, but many felt that he was lacking in certain areas in comparison to his Dortmund days.
As such, Klopp could get the best out of him at Liverpool.
The Reds were irresistible and relentless going forward last season in netting 84 goals just in their Premier League campaign, not to mention the staggering 47 they netted en route to being runners-up in the Champions League.
And given Gotze’s incredible quality in the final third of the pitch, be it in picking out passes and threading through balls between defenders, and indeed linking up with the lethal Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah, the 26-year-old could flourish once again.
Ultimately, a move away may well be in the German’s best interests in a bid for a fresh start to reignite his career, and reuniting with Klopp at Anfield, in what would be his first taste of English football, may well be his wisest move.
In fact, a reunion with his former Dortmund boss could well get the best out of him once again.
