Liverpool fans here in the Tavern are hoping to bolster their goalkeeping ranks in the summer, as their current pairing have been a comedy act at times this season.
Indeed, early season troubles involving the Reds’ defensive line now seem to be forgotten after the signing of Virgil Van Dijk, as it’s the turn of Liverpool’s goalkeepers to spring terror upon the faces of many local residents here in the Tavern. Although, Jurgen Klopp’s decision to gift Loris Karius with the No.1 ‘keeping spot has been a rewarding process for the Reds, as the German looks to have improved on last season’s error-ridden performances. And, his hard work and determination looks to be paying off for the his future at Anfield, as according to reports in the Telegraph, Liverpool could stick with Karius in the summer instead of splashing £70m on a goalkeeper.
It appears that manager Jurgen Klopp is ready to abandon his plans of signing Roma goalkeeper Alisson, a move that would back his fellow countryman’s hopes of establishing a long-term future at Anfield. This, after Liverpool’s approach for the Brazilian, was returned with a hefty asking price from the Serie A outfit, with a £70 million offer being the only way to spirit him away from Rome.
Indeed, with the ineffective Simon Mignolet still waiting in the wings on Merseyside, a replacement for the Belgian is likely in the summer but it appears that their focus won’t be on breaking the bank for a new No.1. And, much to the dismay of many of our local Liverpudlians here in the Tavern, a future with Karius as the first-choice goalkeeper is one that’s caused for many to question the club’s aspirations.
Loris Karius has been impressive in recent times for the Reds, with his performances this season being rewarded by his fellow countryman. Although, after witnessing some questionable displays in his time so far on Merseyside, there’s doubts surrounding whether he’s done enough to warrant a permanent No.1 spot in front of the Kop.
