Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are starting to pack their suitcases with plane tickets booked to Ukraine, the Champions League final against Real Madrid is on the horizon.
The Reds have booked their place in Kiev after knocking out Porto, Manchester City and Roma in search for their sixth European Cup. It’s been a wonderful campaign for the Reds and our local Kopites are just praying they can pull off a miracle when it comes to their meeting with Los Blancos.
Jurgen Klopp has rotated his squad heavily throughout the season to keep his star players fit and healthy, but injuries have racked up as the season draws to a close. With Emre Can, Adam Lallana and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain already sidelined, the German recently lost Joe Gomez to an ankle problem; meaning the Reds have just three senior centre-backs available.
Signings are a must when the transfer window reopens if the Reds are to challenge domestically and in Europe next year. The signing of Naby Keita is already confirmed. However, more squad depth is needed. Defence should be a priority with long-term fitness concerns lingering over Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren.
Reports in Spain (as per El Chiringuito via AS) suggest Liverpool will make a move for Barcelona defender, Yerry Mina, on loan which could prove to be an excellent deal for the Reds. The Colombian arrived at the club in January but has made just three appearances since switching from Palmeiras. He is valued at £8.1m by Transfermarkt.
An imposing defender who is great with the ball at his feet, Mina could be a smart signing by Klopp. A loan move would free up funds to strengthen other areas while adding a quality option in defence. At 23-years-old, he is a top defender with enormous potential.
If he hits the ground running on Merseyside, he could be the long-term defensive partner to Virgil Van Dijk.
