Liverpool fans here in the Transfer Tavern were disappointed not to come away with more in the Merseyside Derby.
Reds boss Jurgen Klopp opted to leave out Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho out of the team against Everton, along with four other changes to the team that had beaten Spartak Moscow 7-0 in the last group stage match of the Champions League. Many of our punters believed this gave The Toffees a pre-match boost, leaving two of the fab four out of the side.
Liverpool dominated proceedings and were unlucky not to grab more than the one goal, with both Coutinho and Firmino later made appearances in the second half but to no effect and Everton grabbed a late penalty to secure the draw.
Many of our regulars believe Klopp should have gone with more attacking experience instead of opting for young Dominic Solanke in such a huge match. To be fair, Liverpool have been one of the highest rotating teams in the league so far, and with the games coming thick and fast, this can sometimes work in your favour.
However, our landlord thought by not at least playing one of the two Klopp handed Everton a huge boost and Liverpool lost a little of their edge. Reds fans, do you agree? Did Klopp make a mistake in dropping the two Brazilians?
