The Leeds United supporters are feeling sceptical about their club’s chances of promotion this season due to their poor run of form of late, but they believe a play-off place could be possible with the right acquisitions this month.
Thomas Christiansen’s side have been in and around the play-offs for the entirety of the season so far, but they are in danger of losing touch of the top-six if they fail to rectify their decline in form in recent weeks. Following a run of 4 games without a victory, Leeds have now dropped down into 10th position, although they are just three points behind 6th placed Sheffield United.
However, despite Leeds relative success so far this season, they will need to add further talent to their ranks if they wish to make a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2004 this season.
The presence of goalscorers within a promotion chasing squad has often proven to be one of the key components of any successful season in The Championship, so Christiansen should be in the market for a centre-forward this month.
With that being said, the Leeds manager should make Liverpool outcast Danny Ings (valued at £7.2 million by Transfermarkt) his number one target this month due to the England international’s proven track-record in a promotion chasing Championship side.
During the 2013/14 season when Burnley achieved automatic promotion with a 2nd place finish, Ings scored 21 goals and provided 7 assists to fire The Clarets into the English top-flight, and his experience in this regard would be a valuable asset in Leeds bid to reach the play-offs.
Ings has suffered a torrid time at Anfield with a succession of injuries so a permanent deal may too great a risk for Leeds to take at this time, but they should certainly be contemplating a loan move for him this month to bolster their attacking options.
