When you read the statement ‘Liverpool should not be letting Lazar Markovic go,’ you may think whoever is behind it is a little mad.
And, indeed, I am slightly but in this particular case there is some method behind the madness.
News broke earlier that Lazar Markovic is going to end his loan deal with Sporting Lisbon early and instead go to Hull City until the end of the season – instead of returning to Liverpool.
There’s nothing really wrong with that either except the fact that the Reds need to bolster their squad as much as possible right now.
Recent results have shown – if there was any doubt – the Liverpool squad is not up to the rigours of a title challenge and so anyone they could bring in to help would surely be welcome.
Certainly, whilst Markovic hasn’t been amazing at Anfield, he’s definitely a better option than throwing the kids in and so it doesn’t make sense why they’ve let him go again.
Indeed, without Sadio Mane (who is at AFCON) the Reds lack pace out wide and yet the club are letting a pacy winger slip from their midst when they already own him.
Markovic has plenty to learn, of course, before he even becomes close to being a regular for the Reds and he may never even do so but with them in their current rut of form – surely it would have made sense to batten down the hatches and keep him in the squad?
He may have even improved under Jurgen Klopp, too, and so the Reds should really have rethought this one.
