As quoted by The Daily Mail, Liverpool’s on-loan defender Jon Flanagan has said that he wants to use his time at Burnley as a springboard for getting back into the Reds’ line-up, with our resident Reds fans here in the Transfer Tavern certainly hoping he can.
The young full back grew up in the city and has been a fan of the club all of his life but has been with the newly-promoted Clarets this season in a bid to regain form and fitness.
After becoming a regular starter in 2013/14 he suffered some serious injuries to see him taken out of the reckoning for some time at Anfield and now, with Jurgen Klopp at the helm, he is trying to prove himself playing at Turf Moor.
Again, he’s had to wait for his chance this season but has come into the side with Stephen Ward out injured and he knows this is his chance to stake his claim to play for his boyhood club once again.
“I just want to play regular football and get back into the routine I was in two years ago. I never doubted for one second I’d be back, I’m mentally tough”, he said.
”We’ll see where it goes from there, and hopefully get back to Liverpool and a starting place. My ideal season? Burnley to qualify for the Europa League and Liverpool to win the League…”
Liverpool are currently second in the league behind Chelsea whilst Burnley have impressed many on-lookers this season and lie eleventh in the table.
