Ex-Liverpool defender Glen Johnson does not believe his former side's 1-0 loss to Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last night was the worst result.

An early goal from midfielder Saul Niguez condemned Jurgen Klopp's men to defeat at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium in the first leg of their last-16 clash, but Johnson is adamant that that is not enough to sink the Merseyside club as he questioned Diego Simeone's tactics.

Speaking on Sky Sports' The Debate (18/02/2020), Johnson said: "They pretty much sat on the ropes and gave Liverpool their respect or a lot of respect. And it'd be interesting to see what they do when it comes to Anfield because I don't think you can get away with those tactics for 90 minutes. So I don't think it's the worst result in the world."

Liverpool will surely be gutted that they did not manage to grab an away goal. Still, in Johnson's words, it does not look like the worst result in the world. After all, it was only last season when the Reds were able to turn things around against Spanish opposition in the same competition.

Liverpool, of course, were 3-0 down by the time Barcelona travelled to Anfield in the second leg of their semi-final tie. However, thanks to the heroics of Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum, they ended up winning 4-0 and completing an incredible comeback.

Taking that into account, as Johnson suggested, by no means is this tie over.
