In the Football Transfer Tavern nothing excites us more than Sky Sports linking a player to the Premier League and that is exactly what has happened in the case of Brazilian international full back Michel Bastos.
Currently plying his trade in Ligue 1 for Lyon, the player has been raising eyebrows and is able to play as a winger for his club and as a full back for his country, meaning that he has no shortage of suitors as the January transfer window draws ever closer.
The 29-year-old has long been watched by Newcastle, Tottenham and Liverpool who are all aware of the latest comments from the club chairman Jean-Michel Aulas who claimed that Lyon would be willing to sell the player should the price be right due to the astronomical wage bill currently totting up at the Stade Gerland.
The player could be obtained for around 17 million euros and this would certainly interest a host of clubs across Europe given the form of the player and his ability to play in numerous positions across the pitch. Bastos has a keen eye for goal and as our landlord points out, anyone who has seen him take a free kick would be rushing to get the cheque book out!
